A native species of hedging commonly referred to as 'Blackthorn' offers spring time blossom followed by the 'sloes' of a beautiful glaucous blue colour. The sloes are traditionally used in autumn to make sloe gin. The thorns provide a natural deterrent for unwanted visitors, whilst offering safe shelter for wildlife.
